Earth Hour a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet. This year, Earth Hour was held last March 24, 2018.
As an involvement in the said event, the Municipality of Guiguinto, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office headed by Engr. Sudan Carreon held an simple program titled “Earth Hour 2018, Our Home, Our Future” to join the said celebration. This made possible with the full support of our Municipal Mayor Ambrosio C. Cruz, Jr. The program was held at the Parking Lot of Waltermart Guiguinto.
The program started around 7:30pm with a prayer followed by the National Anthem. Then opening remarks was given by Mr. Eric Donnelle Manio from Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO); he talked about what the event is all about and the we should have continues effort to protect the environment. After Mr. Eric, Mayor Ambrosio C. Cruz, Jr. inspired us how the Municipality cope with the need of the environment, and then he talked about the effect plastic in nature and the commitment and efforts of the Municipality regarding this matter. And lastly, Mrs. Josefina Natividad, retired district supervisor of DEPED talked about how we can be a part of the solution not the problem regarding environment.
Lastly, we prepared the candles and lightened it as we made countdown before the official start of Earth Hour (8:30pm). The Guiguinto Municipal Hall also closed its lights at the time.
